Timeframe
2004 to 2005

The Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission (AADAC) and the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission partnered to develop the “Problem and Responsible Gambling Strategy”. One component of this initiative was the “Deal Us In” Program, a gambling venue staff training program for casino and racing entertainment centre employees.

AADAC and the Commission retained Praxis to evaluate the program. The evaluation included various components:

  • a review of gambling venue staff training literature;
  • a content analysis of training manuals;
  • an examination of the central processes involved in delivering the program; and
  • an assessment of the program outcomes, specifically, awareness and skill development, application of knowledge, and social impact.

AADAC staff who had participated in the training program completed the surveys. Praxis also conducted interviews with key stakeholders. The final report provided a summary of gambling staff training literature; a comprehensive description of program operations; an assessment of the extent to which goals and objectives had been met; and recommendations for the future direction of the program.
