For this one-year ”service contract”, Praxis undertook socio-economic work required by Petro-Canada. This assignment involved the completion of community assessments for four existing plant operations. This work involved assessing the local, regional and provincial effects of these plants in terms of economic and employment impacts; community profiles; and resident issues and concerns.

Regional studies included the Brazeau Gas Plant and Pembina Operations located in the Drayton Valley area. The study also included an assessment of the Petro-Canada image, donation policies and activities in the community of Drayton Valley and the surrounding region.

In addition, the study evaluated the relationship between Petro-Canada and the communities surrounding the Wildcat Hills gas plant as well as Petro-Canada and the Grande Prairie District. Specific areas for assessment included expenditures, attitudes toward Petro-Canada within the region, and its success in implementing relevant corporate policies. For Bellshill Lake, the study reviewed the economic and community relationships between the Petro-Canada Bellshill Lake Project and the surrounding communities. The study assessed the nature and extent of direct and indirect benefits accruing to the local and regional communities, expenditure and employment initiatives, and attitudes toward Petro-Canada within the study area.
