Project Name

Recreational Vehicle Camping in Alberta: A Demand and Supply Side Perspective

Client
Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation
Project Type
Market Research
Timeframe
2009

In 2009 Praxis Research conducted a study of recreational vehicle (RV) campers and campgrounds in Alberta for Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation. The study assessed the extent to which Alberta’s campgrounds are adequate in numbers, condition and diversity. The study used primary and secondary sources including print and web literature, expert interviews and a public telephone survey of residents from BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan who camp with RVs.

The final report addressed a number of issues including:

  • examining the travel industry (of particular importance considering economic conditions);
  • assessing the current supply side in Alberta (manufacturers and RV campground operations);
  • estimating the demand side (campers’ interest in Alberta’s campgrounds);
  • highlighting significant trends affecting RV campground operation and development; and
  • identifying best practices in campground operations.
