Alberta Advanced Education and Career Development (AAECD) contracted Praxis to collaborate with the multi-disciplinary committee on formulating an overall consultation program as part of AAECD’s broader strategy and action plan to develop a white paper on all aspects of adult learning in Alberta. This 18 month process yielded new legislation and policy for AAECD.

Praxis developed a multi-pronged public involvement strategy and conducted two rounds of consultation. Round One included developing and producing five publications. Praxis organized the printing, packaging and mailing of fifteen thousand copies to the public and interest groups across Alberta. Praxis also managed province-wide toll-free telephone lines throughout the process.

In addition, Praxis organized 18 community meetings, and worked with Department staff to implement a province-wide outreach program. Praxis also developed an internal consultation program to allow input from departmental staff. Praxis analyzed the public input gathered through the meetings and 1,200 written submissions to produce a series of background papers. These informed the Draft White Paper; AAECD distributed it to over 10,000 organizations and individuals for review. In Round Two, Praxis organized and facilitated four multi-stakeholder workshops in Calgary and Edmonton to gather feedback on the Draft. Using this input, Praxis produced a “What You Told Us” report. In the final stage, Praxis developed a Departmental Consultation Framework to guide future consultations.
