The Calgary Zoo contracted Praxis to determine the economic impact of a major new facility, Destination Africa, for the Calgary Zoo. This development, comprised of four major elements, completed the African section of the Calgary Zoo. It incorporated existing habitats and expanded to the zoo’s eastern edge to occupy 20 percent of Zoo Island.

To determine the economic impact of the Calgary Zoo, Praxis used the Tourism Economic Assessment Model (TEAM), a computer-based model designed to assess the impacts of tourism-related activities on local and provincial economies. The model is designed to calculate the economic impacts of both the demand and supply side of a tourist attraction. The results were analyzed and compiled into a comprehensive report.
